2.6 Nesting Materials

Our nesting materials are designed for the health of our bees in mind first.

Nesting holes should be easy to open to separate healthy bee cocoons from pests and disease. When they walk through unopened and infected nesting chambers, adult bees spread diseases and pests throughout your garden and bee house. Removing cocoons from nesting holes and managing them as loose cocoons significantly reduces the spread of diseases and pests.

Each bee species has their nesting hole size preference and providing the bee’s favorite nesting hole diameter size can improve nesting activity. Our nesting materials are also deep enough to encourage bees to feel safe while they lay female eggs in the back of the nesting holes. Our cardboard bee tubes are also thicker to prevent an attack from sneaky parasitic wasps that want to lay their eggs in your developing bee larvae.

Benefits of Our Spring Nesting Materials

  • Spring mason bees prefer nesting hole diameters of 8mm.

  1. Wood Trays - Reusable trays retain nesting scents and reduce your yearly costs. Fastest to open to harvest cocoons. Easy to clean and reassemble. Lightly burnished to visually help mason bees find their nesting hole. Sides are resistant to sneaky parasitic wasp attack.
  2. Natural Reeds - Bee's favorite! Visually attractive and slight natural size variety. Easy to open and naturally more resistant to parasitic wasps.
  3. Cardboard BeeTubes with Inserts - Simply replace Easy-Tear Inserts every year, great for Bee Raisers! BeeTubes are thick-walled to help prevent parasitic wasp attack.
